Day 51
Whip up this white bean dip in just a few minutes. Add 2 cups white Navy beans (cooked, drained and rinsed), 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, 1 garlic clove, ¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and ½ lemon (juiced) to a food processor and puree until smooth. It’s great to take on the road, to serve to guests, or have for the week at home as an afternoon snack served with veggies or these no-sugar seed crackers.
Yesterday I hit 50 days of my no added sugar lifestyle, or at least trying my best. Being aware of sugar and thinking about it 24/7 like I have for the past 50 days, here’s just a summary the latest awareness:
· Sugar is everywhere
· Sugar is in 80% of our grocery store products
· Sugar is in processed food, so read every ingredient label
· Sugar is social
· Sugar is also in isolation
· Sugar can be related to stress, shame, addiction, peer pressure, fun, habit, ignorance, fitting in
· Sugar is in so many drinks - juice, alcohol, coffees, ice tea, soda – even diet drinks
· Sugar is in holiday treats i.e. PSL, Halloween candy, birthday cakes, and coming up - Thanksgiving pies, Christmas cookies, and so much more. What kinds of added sugars will you have this Labor Day weekend?
· Sugar is in marketing; buyer beware
Sugar can also lead to overweight, obesity, and chronic conditions and diseases like prediabetes, Type 2 diabetes, stroke, hypertension, dementia and Alzheimers disease.
