My Sugar Free Year - Day 72

Day 72

This eating out while traveling is challenging!  After our facials this morning (first time in many years) we had lunch outside overlooking the golf course.  The menu again was very nice, but everywhere I turned was hidden sugar.  I focused in on the Ahi tuna with seaweed salad, pickled ginger and ponzu.  Of course, the ponzu most likely had sugar.  If the seaweed salad had sugar, I’d choose something else.

It turns out the waitperson was another sugar expert.  She doesn’t eat sugar, reads every label, and becomes ill when she eats sugar.  I was happy!  She said she’d check to see if the seaweed salad had sugar, but thought it probably would and offered sauteed spinach or kale if it did – great!  She then pointed out that the pickled ginger has sugar.  Of course – I hadn’t even thought about that!

So, I ended up ordering the Ahi tuna, no ponzu, no pickled ginger and sauteed kale.  Even with all of this discussion, the plate came with picked ginger and no kale. They realized the error and corrected it.  Whew.  A lot goes into avoiding added sugar!

Last night mom and dad made chicken piccata with artichokes, capers, and zoodles.  Yum!  I’m spoiled.
