A Vision Board For My Birthday

IMG_0035_copy1

When asked what I wanted for my birthday this year, I told my family I’d like cooperation, patience and an open mind in order to have us each create a vision board.  Now for some families, this is just how they role.  They’ve got a family mission statement, have weekly family meetings, parents put aside their needs and take time to listen to their kids, the TV is off during family meals, etc.  Okay, I really don’t know any family like that, but that would be my ideal.  So, when my husband said “What’s a vision board”, and I started to explain, I could see the resistance in his body language.

This birthday request all came about because I was asked to do a vision board workshop for a local community organization.  I’ve always wanted to do one myself and have never taken the time to do it.  Now I’ve got a deadline and I’m happy for the opportunity.

So to answer my husband’s question, a vision board is a tool for directing your attention and intention.  It can help begin the process of getting clear and attracting the life you want to you, whether that’s in regards to health, business, spirituality, relationships, or something else altogether.  It’s the path to the YOU that you REALLY want to be.  Using the law of attraction, by placing the vision board in a place where you will look at it each day, your true dreams and goals will become reality.  We move toward what we believe and think.

The first step in creating a vision board is to get clear on one's desires, and dreams.  For some of us, this is especially difficult because we are so caught up in the day to day, giving and doing for others, that we don’t take the time to even think about what we want.  In my workshop, I’ll help this process through a guided meditation prompting participants to think about how they want to feel, not just the things they want; the principles by which they want to live; and to get clear on who they are at their core and who they like being.

If you want to play along, and create your own vision board, maybe think about:

1.   If money, people’s opinions and judgments, and fear were not factors, what would you do, be, and have?

2.  What beliefs or things would you have to let go of to create this in your life?

3.  What would you have to believe in order to be, do, and have these things.

Next, collect images and quotes
that represent your goals and dreams.  Then you are ready to start cutting and pasting onto poster board, or you can use a cork board with pins, or for the techies, set one up on Pinterest, but make sure to look at it every day.

I’m really looking forward to seeing my husband and son’s vision boards and sharing with each other.  A little idealistic family bonding.  Happy Birthday to me.

Stay tuned. Maybe I’ll share our boards in this blog next time.
