Day 10
I feel a shift in myself and yesterday paid close attention to my yin and yang balance which I’ve studied and practiced when I was doing my heath coach training. I’ve been feeling really grounded, confident and clear. But I still had a slight craving today not for sugar, but for meat. We think cravings as a weakness but they can be important messages meant to help us keep the balance. The body is always looking for homeostasis.
What you put in your body, food, drink, and drugs effect the yin-yang balance and imbalance can cause cravings. Yin foods are things like sugar, alcohol, caffeine, white processed foods, pasta, cakes and pastries to name a few and yang foods are things like salt, seaweed, animal products, and whole grains.
I realized I hadn’t had any meat (yang) in over a week, so took some grass-fed beef out of the freezer last night and grilled it with some fingerling potatoes which are yin, but also have grounding properties because they are root vegetables. The weather and seasons also effect this balance in the body with cool, hot, damp and dry. I was craving the potatoes but probably wouldn’t have had them if it was still stifling hot like last week when I was eating cool, raw plant foods.
I’ve always been drawn to eating with the seasons and these ideas of Traditional Chinese Medicine. What about you? Does this resonate or make sense for you?
I’m looking forward to my niece arriving this morning and visiting for the weekend. I have a bag of clementine’s, cherries, raw almonds and water packed for our outing today. I don’t want to get stuck like the other day at tennis.
Everything is going pretty well. Thanks again for being here with me.
