Day 17
Yesterday I got up and did beach yoga and played tennis. My energy seemed really low all morning even though I had protein for breakfast. I had edamame, quinoa, and red pepper salad and a cup of homemade vegetable broth for lunch and just wanted to take a nap. But of course, I had a whole afternoon of appointments so that was out of the question. I managed my way through the afternoon at my standing desk for one call, and then on the sofa for two more phone calls hoping I would somehow feel more energy. Then the migraine hit. I very rarely (almost never) get headaches, and I don’t ever remember having a migraine. But I couldn’t keep my eyes open and had to resort to Tylenol, no screens, and a nap.
Studies have shown that when someone stops eating sugar there are similar effects as when people get off drugs. Exhaustion, headaches, brain fog, and irritability are common symptoms. Well, that was about right for me yesterday.
I went to sleep at 8:45 pm last night and this morning I don’t have a migraine, but still feel foggy and have a slight headache. I’m going to push through this morning and go to spin class and hopefully will feel better! From what I’ve read, the sugar detox symptoms usually last a few weeks. I hope the worst is over and I get the benefits of a clean diet.
We’ve been invited to a BBQ tonight and hamburgers, hotdogs, and potato salad are on the menu. Of course, I asked if I could bring a green salad and a fruit salad for dessert. It’s ironic that the menu doesn’t contain sugar (unless there is sugar in the buns and potato salad) and that I’m bringing the sugar. But it’s just fruit and not added sugars, except for the dressing which will go on after I take my serving.
Have a great weekend. I’ll still be here blogging away.
