My Sugar Free Year - Day 37

I’m planning a brunch for this Sunday, so yesterday I ran out to the grocery and liquor stores in between calls and meetings for things I needed to serve. I’m making quinoa and spinach egg cups, potatoes and peppers, fruit salad, and the rest is off limits for me.  We’ll serve bagels with lox, croissants, and zucchini bread (all containing added sugar). To drink I’ll make peppermint iced tea, sparkling water with lemon, and coffee. Oh, and mimosas, but not for me. I plan to have my sugar free drink in a wine glass! 
 
The Co-op basket did not disappoint yesterday.  I even received organic “champagne” grapes so I can have my champagne (just the fruit) this weekend.  Actually champagne grapes are not used to make champagne, the sparkling wine – go figure.
 
Today, I’m headed out to visit Leonard Buck Gardens with my neighborhood friends.  We like to plan a few “Fun Friday” outings during the summer.  We are up in the air on the restaurant choices for lunch but I checked the menus of those suggested.  I’ll ask the wait staff to describe the dish and if it’s a salad, ask for oil and vinegar on the side to avoid any hidden sugars in the dressing.
 
This morning I prepared a green drink with lots of lemon, kale, spinach, and flax seed and no protein powder. My family had a very long and intense discussion about protein isolates and empirical studies, etc., etc. last night. We didn’t resolve anything, and everyone is still in their corner about the best sources of protein, and how much protein we should have.  Just a normal Thursday night at the Zung household!
