Day 79
I had the pleasure of attending a women’s award luncheon yesterday after doing a live, in-person talk yesterday morning for a Local Rotary club, both of which felt strange after 18 months of working from home and on Zoom. The morning talk was of course all about hidden sugars, and well received.
The awards luncheon was held at one of the nicest golf clubs around with great food and service. Our table consisted of health-minded folks and the staff accommodated all of our dietary needs including vegan, gluten free, dairy free, no eggs, and sugar free. Everyone was served an amazing meal per their request. It was pretty great to see all of this in action.
Later I overheard the manager talking about how all of these special requests slowed down the kitchen. It turned out that when asked, 25% of the guests had a dietary restriction or special request.
I’m a bit conflicted about this. When invited to a venue for a meal, should you request something to accommodate your needs, or just go with whatever is served? In this case, it probably would have been better for the kitchen’s sake to request ahead of time. What do you think? I’d really like to know.
Cheesecake for dessert? I think not. Too bad they ran out of figs, or maybe they were tired of our special requests.
