Day 89
Do you love cookies? If yes, why do you love them? Is it the sweetness, cravings, the emotional tie to childhood, a habit?
I haven’t had cookies in a long time, at least store bought. The homemade cookies delivered at Christmas time by my neighbor are really tempting, and I usually have one or two, because they are there, and I remember how good they were from the past year. But I don’t crave them, or go out of my way to have them.
My boys like to have cookies around. I’m wondering why, and maybe should ask. Is it the sugar, the fat, cravings, the emotional tie, or just a habit? I guess as a health coach who is on a sugar free year adventure buying cookies for the house might be considered enabling. If I didn’t buy them, they would ask for them, or go get them. It’s happened.
The cookies in the house now are Pepperidge Farm Milano’s with 11 g of sugar for 3 cookies, and English shortbread cookies with 3 g sugar per cookie.
I don’t like to judge or tell people what to eat, especially family members. And over the years they have really gotten so much better on their choices. Food is emotion, history, love, habit. But to me food is medicine. I’m still working on my little family, but I’m glad they are open to learning.
The struggle is real!
