My Sugar Free Year - Day 136

November 28, 2021
Day 136

Soup Buddha Bowls now seem to be a thing in restaurants. I’ve noticed them three times over the past month or two.  It used to be just the dry ingredients, either warm or cold usually with quinoa, beans like chickpeas or edamame, some delicious sauce and maybe something pickled.  Now warm soup is added to the bowl first, then all of the other ingredients are gently placed on top. Last night I had one of these bowls with a warm fall spiced squash soup with roasted Delicata squash, roasted carrots, and chickpeas.

I’ve not been as diligent as in the beginning of my sugar free year adventure about asking the wait staff about sugar in the dish.  Instead, I’ve been avoiding the obvious such as salad dressings, glazes, barbeque style, and anything mysterious.  There was a Korean style fish on the menu but my mind immediately went to Korean BBQ and sugar.  Who knows, but I made another choice without more input other than the menu description and my general knowledge. We know that some store-bought broth can contain added sugar, so I should have asked.  I felt a bit timid as I was with my husband and another couple, and the restaurant was busy and loud. Do you ever feel like that?  I’ve got to get my mojo back to asking for what I want.
