Day 241
Sugar addicts most likely have low serotonin, a brain chemical that increases our feelings of calmness, improved sleep patterns, increases pain tolerance, and reduces cravings for food and sugar. I’ve talked about this before and without getting into tall of the brain chemical science, there are things that you can do to increase serotonin production in your brain.
I’ve written about and advocate for eating protein containing B12, but you can also increase serotonin levels with B vitamins that can be found in spinach, bell peppers, turnip greens, garlic, bananas, and celery. Folic acid also helps with serotonin and can be found in leafy greens, fruits, and legumes. So far today in these categories I’ve had kale, spinach, arugula, celery, black beans, and ½ an apple. How about you? Are you getting these foods in your diet on a regular basis?
